Places to visit

Our Agriturismo is in the middle of a circle, where the city that lies furthest away is Rome, at 170 km.

There are so many great places to visit. Within an hour you can get to some of the most beautiful and interesting places of Lazio, Umbria and Central and Southern Tuscany.

Here is a list of places and how far they are from Sarteano.

Siena (90 kms)

With its famous palio horseback race, and myriad of streets leading to the amazing Piazza del Campo.

Florenze (130 kms)

One of the most famous cities in the world, home to so many artists, poets, saints and politicians. With a rich history and so much to see.

Rome (170 kms)

Italy’s capital. Just over an hour away by train from Chiusi – well worth a day trip.

Perugia (70 kms)

Main city in Umbria. Now a lively university town. It is well worth a visit to stroll around its colourful streets and admire the views. To get here, follow road signs to Lake Trasimeno and enjoy the drive around the lake. Assisi and Gubbio are not far from here either.

Chiusi (15 kms)

Many Etruscan Tombs to visit. Also a lake where you can hire a rowing boat.

Montepulciano (30 Kms)

A gem of a hill top village. A fascinating past with many beautiful monuments and squares. Considered the “pearl of the 1500s”.

Pienza (40 kms)

The papal palace of Piccolomini  well deserves a visit. Another town with an interesting past. Excellent cheese.

Radicofani (17 kms)

Half way between Mt. Cetona and Mt. Amiata you come across Radicofani. Well worth a visit for the views from its splendid castle.

Mount Amiata (35 kms)

Ski resort.

San Casciano dei Bagni (10 kms)

A small village right in the south of the Province of Siena. Reknowned for its thermal springs. The old quarter, dating back to the medieval times, deserves a visit.

Bolsena (55 kms)

A town skirting the banks of one of the largest lakes in Europe with volcanic origins. An amazing 13th/14th century castle hosts a museum.
